The IPL auction for this season was organized in Mumbai and witnessed quite a few surprising elements. All the franchises managed to retain their desired players. Pat Cummins was found to be the one who was bid for the highest amount (Rs.15.5 crores). Many young and talented players were auctioned and acquired by the teams which means many talented veteran players have been left out of IPL 2020.
While the reasons behind this are many, there are some players that we would expect to gain a place, nevertheless. Surprisingly, these top players couldn’t gain a seat in the final team, but it happens every year. Though there are many, we have narrowed down the names and made a list of five players that anyone might expect to see in IPL.
Check them out.
Colin Ingram
South African batsman is well known for his power hitting. Rather on techniques, we can say his batting is more centered towards power and aggression. Ingram began at 14 years old, batting for the Eastern Province group and the South African schools’ group. He has a very impressive record in T20 cricket. His capacity to bat for long time frames has been evident from his records scoring 39 fifties and four centuries. In a very short span, this youngster has shown his potential to the world of cricket.
Martin Guptill
A right-handed batsman from New Zealand who has been one among the hardest hitters. Known for scoring quick runs and the only player from New Zealand to score above 200 in One Day Internationals. Martin holds the iconic record as the only player from New Zealand who made the highest score of 237 to date. He was also the highest scorer in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. This is the kind of player that any team can absolutely count on, but he couldn’t secure a place in this IPL 2020 which is a sad thing not just for the player but for the fans that were expecting to watch him in IPL 13.
Naman Ojha
Regardless of having a base price of only 50 Lakhs, Naman Ojha being one of the finest Indian cricket players went unsold. In 2009, he was bought by the Indian Premier League (IPL). He may not be the most impressive player but still, Naman Ojha is a reliable one. He was also a part of the 2016 IPL winning Sunrisers Hyderabad and was a crucial player who contributed to the team’s success.
Tim Southee
One of the big surprises of this year’s auction was the absence of New Zealand players. Tim Southee, an international New Zealand cricketer who was part of tournaments like IPL and World Cup Final went unsold in IPL 2020 auction is the biggest surprise. Southee has been a part of quite a few T20 Leagues. It is stunning that no team has chosen to get him but still he remains as a key name on the national team sheet.
Stuart Binny
A hard-hitting Indian all-rounder and son of former Indian Test cricketer Roger Binny. Shockingly, any of the teams didn’t choose him as Stuart Binny would have been instrumental for them to lead the team. He has been a prominent player in the Indian Premier League (IPL). A medium-paced bowler who can swing the ball in favorable conditions. Stuart Binny was once a great asset to the team but this year, the franchises were reluctant on hiring him.
Many such talented players were left in the IPL 2020 but the good news is that they have been replaced by some of the better ones that can make an impact. Are the chances that the franchises took the right ones? You can only see after watching the thirteenth season of IPL.
